
Very Reverend Father Andrew Jarmus
Father Andrew Jarmus was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada. Father Andrew's parents emigrated to Canada in the early
1960's. His father, who is also an Orthodox priest, was born in
Ukraine. His mother was born in England.
Father Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the
University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, a Masters of Divinity from St.
Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox College, Winnipeg, and a Masters of
Theology degree from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology,
Boston, Massachusetts. He also has extensive training in hospital
chaplaincy and pastoral counseling.
Father Andrew married Kristi Schledewitz in September 1990. In 1992,
he was ordained to the priesthood in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of
Canada (UOCC), serving for six years as a parish priest in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada.
In 1998, he returned to Winnipeg to work at the UOCC Chancery as
Director of Missions and Education, and later also as Editor-in-Chief
of the Church's publishing house.
From 1993 to 2006, Father Andrew taught courses in Pastoral Theology,
Ethics, and Early Church Fathers, at St. Andrew's College, in
Winnipeg.
The author of numerous articles, Father Andrew co-authored the book
“On the Issues of Aging Sickness and Dying” with his father. He is
also the author of “On Behalf of All and For All: A Guide into the
Divine Liturgy for Laity”, the "Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada
Parish Growth Resource Guide", and the Ukrainian Church's “Guiding
Principles Bible Study” series.
In conjunction with his administrative and academic work with the
UOCC, Father Andrew served as pastor of several smaller parishes,
including Holy Cross Mission, the Church's first all-English parish
which he helped establish.
In 2006, Father Andrew was received into the Archdiocese of Canada of
the Orthodox Church in America (OCA). At that time, he was elevated to
the rank of Archpriest. He was assigned pastoral responsibilities of
Theotokos of the Life-Giving Spring Mission in Winnipeg and joined the
faculty of the St. Arseny Institute, an educational institution of the
Archdiocese of Canada.
In August 2007, Father Andrew and his family moved to Long Island, New
York, where he served as the OCA's Director of Ministries and
Communications until December 2009. From May 2008 to April 2010, he
also served as Priest-in-Charge of St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox
Church in Queens, New York, a parish of the OCA's Albanian
Archdiocese.
In January 2010, Father Andrew was transfered to the OCA's Bulgarian
Diocese. He began serving at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Fort
Wayne, Indiana, in April 2010.
Father Andrew and Popadia Kristi have three sons. A true Canadian,
Father Andrew is an avid fan of hockey, as well as whatever sports his
boys are playing at any given time. He also enjoys music, cycling,
musical theater, folk dance, and a good Science Fiction story.
